During our move we put AMA on hold but we're all settled into our new home and ready to get back into the swing of things.

We'll start with answers from the Cheese and Soup loving Alexis of Smarmyclothes

how old are you? (from Heartsizedcrush)
I'm 136. In cat years.

Why are you so jawesome? WHY??? (fromSinburned)
Maybe I'm born with it. (Maybe it's Maybelline.) Actually, it's most definitely Maybelline.

What's the square root of 247365? Quick, do it in your head. No calculators allowed. (from Sinburned)
625

Will you live with me and make my clothes if I feed you cheese? (from Sinburned)

I am currently entertaining several offers of this nature. I will strongly consider my options and get back to you.

Want to meet up half way and go to the cheese castle? (from TheMeggers)
Only if you agree to wear medieval style clothing and a cheese crown.

You're in the Arctic, face to face with a killer penguin. What are you wearing? (from OMGcow)
A jockstrap and mittens.

What was the very first thing/item/piece of clothing you ever sew/sewed/made? Pictures?
(from OMGcow)
The first thing I ever made was a stuffed monkey for my 6th grade Life Skills class. I think my mom still has it somewhere. It was pretty hideous and lumpy, my stuffing skills were no match for my sewing skills. Not long after that, I made a wrap skirt. It was white with purple flowers, and I never wore it. I think my mom thought starting simple was best, but I never wore skirts, so it wasn't a great choice for wearability.

Do you know I love you? (from Headlesstess)
Does the Pope shit in the woods?

What Jem character would you be and why?
(from Headlesstess)
Boy howdy, that's a tough one. Pizazz is such a bad ass bitch, but Jem has the spotlight... I think I'd have to be Jem.

How much fabric are you hoarding right now?
(from Headlesstess)
Fabric? What fabric? There's no fabric here. *rumble rumble* Ahhhhhh!!!

[The remainder of this interview was conducted from underneath a fabric avalanche.]

Who is your secret DIYScene crush?
(from Headlesstess)
If I divulged that here, it wouldn't be a secret, now would it?

(The letters above can be rearranged to reveal the answer!)

If you were food what kinda of food would you be?
(from Headlesstess)
I think I'd like to be something with a funny name. Bangers and Mash or Spotted Dick or Bubble and Squeak. (I almost went with some sort of soup, but then it would be weird to eat myself, right? If I was soup and I ate soup, I'd be a cannibal.)

If I snuck into your sewing room and stole 98734892 yards of fabric... would you even notice? (from MTcoffinz)
I would be most likely to notice if you stole one of the pieces I've been hoarding for years, too scared to cut into it... like the evil japanese ice cream cone fabric, or the blue and white mushroom fabric.... Then again, I hoard so much that sometimes I'm cleaning and come across it and say, "Oh yeah! I forgot about this!"

You're secretly a super hero, right? Cuz you've got the perfect body for a super hero costume! (from Blackkittenaccessories)
I don't know what you're talking about. There is absolutely no link between me and Flatula The Super Farter. I'm flattered that you would think so, though. The way she fights crime with her ass is nothing short of amazing. There should be a national holiday in her name. We should shower her with money and gifts. Being a super hero is probably very stressful and doesn't pay very well, especially with having to replace your suit every time you blast a bad guy with a MegaToot. That's what I've heard anyway.

Would you cry over ruined mashed potatoes? (From Psycho Kitty
I think I have cried over ruined mashed potatoes. I've definitely cried over a burned grilled cheese.

Why are manhole covers round? (from Kim)
Is this a trick question?

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
(from Kim)
Chili, yogurt, applesauce, sour cream, oranges, and maybe, just maybe... a small amount (3 lbs or so) of cheese.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional who would it be?
(from Kim)
I would want to be the protagonist in a mystery or detective novel.

Why on earth does the food shop think, that a cheese salad baguette only consists of cheese, lettuce and cucumber? (from Kezbirdie)
That's an excellent question. There should be some sort of Congressional order put forth on this topic, because the injustice has gone on too long!

Cucumbers, blah or yummy?
(from Kezbirdie)
Yummy... although I was watching a cooking show the other day where they sauteed some cucumbers, and that weirded me out a bit.

Who is your favorite Muppet or Sesame Street character? (from CandyRave)

I love the Swedish Chef. I would like to be the Swedish Chef.

What is your favorite kind of soup? (from Winterlights)
I can't pass up a good chicken noodle. I ordered a second round instead of dessert once, but they ran out!

What do you normally have for breakfast each morning (or for your first meal, if you're a naughty breakfast-skipper)?
(from Winterlights)
If I get up early enough (haha) I usually eat something sweet- cereal, yogurt or a muffin. If I get up after 11, I usually just wait and eat a sammich.

What is your favorite song of all time?
(from Winterlights)
Man, I don't know what the harder question is... favorite soup or favorite song. It can all depend on the mood or the day. If I was in an introspective mood, I'd probably pick something by Elliott Smith... "Angeles" or "Southern Belle". If I was picking something to rock out to, it'd probably be "Lori Meyers" by NOFX.

Will you marry me??(from Eyescream*industries)
I think we'd have to move to Utah.

What was your first time like..... :] (this one HAS to be from Plats!)
I was five years old the first time I road a bike without training wheels. I was having trouble balancing, so my friend told me to start up on top of a hill, hold on with my hands, but just stick my legs out and don't worry about pedaling. So I pushed off and down the hill I went. And it was working! But then I was coming to the bottom of the hill and didn't know how to stop the bike. I wiped out, but I knew how to ride a bike after that.
Oh, you meant my first
time....

If you were a wrestler or superhero or whatever...what would your theme song be? (from Jenellsrevenge)

"Push It" by Salt n Pepa

At a movie theater which arm rest is yours?
(from Jenellsrevenge)
I'll steal both if I can. Otherwise, probably the one on the right.

What is Satan's last name?
(from Jenellsrevenge)
Snuvvlebuns

Why do doctors leave the room when you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.
(from Jenellsrevenge)
They're supposed to leave the room? That's weird...

Who was the last person you gave a hug to? (from Winterlights)

Mr. Smarmy!

Do you have any enemies?
(from Winterlights)
I prefer the term arch nemesis.
I don't really think I have any, though. In fact, the last time I had one, it didn't work out so well. We showed up to our 8th grade graduation dinner wearing the same dress.

When you read Kim's questions, how long did your brain stick on the word: manhole? (from Tapebubba)
I'm still thinking about it. Manhole.

Tigers, RedWings, Lions, Spartans, Pistons, Wolverines?
(from Tapebubba)
Exqueeze me, but I am a Bronco girl, all the way.
Okay, not really. I have absolutely no allegiance to my Alma Mater, in fact, they can suck it. The alumni association will never get a dime from me.
My gut says Pistons. They kicked ass when I was a kid. And I can really remember the announcer guy saying, "Joooooooooe Duuuuuuuumaaaaaars!"
However, every Sunday in the fall, the Lions provide an excellent 3 hour period in which to take a nap.

Does Mr Smarmy refer to himself as Mr Smarmy?
(from Tapebubba)
Yes, Mr. Smarmy is stuck firmly in the third person.

Whats the best ice cream in Hell?
(from MsChrista)
Pumpkin is definitely the best. Cotton candy is also really good with chocolate chips on it. But the one I ate the most of was Mackinac Island Fudge.

If you agree to marry Nixx, will you be the husband or the wife? (from Tapebubba)
I think we'd both wear a half tuxedo/half wedding dress. Like the half man/half woman at the Circus, you know?

Can I be a groomsman?
(from Tapebubba)
I think you'd have to be a groomsmaid and wear a half tux/half ugly bridesmaid dress.

what is your favorite flavor of cupcake? (from Heartsizedcrush)
Blackbottom! Chocolate cake on the bottom with chocolate chip cheesecake on top. No frosting.

Peter Chris of K.I.S.S. : Cat-tastic or Pussy?
(from Tapebubba)
Pussytastic!

Who are you, and what have you done with the real Me?

I refuse to take questions from clones.

Do you believe in the supernatural? (from Invy Studios)

I think there's a lot of stuff going on in the world that we haven't discovered or figured out how to explain scientifically yet. And I don't mean ghosts and the afterlife and such.

There was a story a while back about a cat in a nursing home that was repeatedly going to sit with people that would die shortly thereafter. All the news stories talked about it being "spooky" and "creepy" and crap like that. To me, the obvious explanation was that dying people probably give off some sort of pheromone or something that cats (and probably other animals) can smell or sense somehow. The cat was probably trying to comfort them, knowing they were about to die.

I think it's silly to apply some sort of magical explanation to things like that, and I think it's just as silly to discount something because we don't fully understand it yet.

That being said, I like the
idea of ghosts and supernatural occurrences.... I think it'd be cool if ghosts were real, but I just don't buy it.

Have you ever had a supernatural experience (dreams with Sam and/or Dean Winchester don't count)?
(from Invy Studios)
Not that I'm aware of, but I'd welcome one, as long as it was a friendly ghost. My imagination is active enough without having to deal with evil spirits.

Do I ever give you the creeps by being too chummy? (from Tapebubba)
It's not the chumminess so much as the requests for my dirty socks.

Is this one of those times?
(from Tapebubba)
Don't think I didn't see that subliminal request for my dirty socks in your previous question.

What is your fantasy clothing line you would like to make if money, time, and models were not an issue? (from Indiscretion)

I would love to do a super over-the-top collection inspired by fairy tales.

Favorite position? You know what I'm talkin' 'bout. (from Winterlights)

I always liked Third Position. It just felt natural. We are talking about playing the violin, right?

If you have the ability to become invisible what would you first do?
(from Winterlights)
I would submit a formal request with the Powers That Be to exchange my Invisibility for the Power of Flight. And then while I waited for them to get back to me (psht, bureaucrats...) I'd probably just observe random people doing everyday things. I think it'd be fun to ride in the car with people while they sing really loud and talk to themselves.

Would you rather: Be very gradually crushed to death over a period of 12 hours or be forced to poke a needle into your right eyeball?
(from Winterlights)
I jabbed a sharp stick in my eye once, and it wasn't so bad... I'd take the short and quick and not-quite-deadly route.

Would say that your house is a male, considering that it has a ding dong? (from The vintageDoctor)
My house's ding dong is broken, so I guess I'd say it's a male suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Do you wear slippers? (from Kezbirdie)
Absolutely. In fact, I think I own more pairs of slippers than shoes.

What color are your undies? (from SoHoKitten)
The undies du jour are plaid.

Do you like Jagermeister?
(from SoHoKitten)
I only tried it once, and I don't remember exactly what it tasted like. I do remember some guy trying to convince me that it had elk's blood in it.

Walrus or deer? Why?
(from SoHoKitten)
Hmmm...Walruses (walrusi?) seem kind of aggressive and dangerous with those tusks. But then deer have ticks... much more insidious. Can I have an elephant instead?

Would you rather: (from TokyoTombola)

A) Have a six-inch unicorn's horn on the middle of your forehead and be cursed to walk around looking like an idiot but you have amazing magical powers that allow you to make your enemies' lady parts swell up to the size of a grapefruit when they piss you off making them look like a really obvious tranny who can't tuck for f.uck

or

B) Have a body that drives every other woman on the planet wild with raging jealousy because of your perfect hair, lips, boobs, tum, legs and bum but never, ever be able to sit down without farting so loud it rattles windows and smells like someone kicked some roadkill up your arse during your sleep?

This isn't even a fair matchup, HORN!!

Would you rather: (from Tapebubba With the last two options added from TokyoTombola))

A) Have something really wrong with you
B) Have something really bad happen
or
C) Throw glitter on everything
D) Throw glitter all over 'Bubs and I and watch us have a glitter fight?
E) Throw glitter all over Angry and Smarmy and watch them have a glitter fight?

A Tom-Bubs Glitter fight is too jawsome to pass up!

What is your orgasm-inducing favorite food? (For clarification: A food that is sooo good it makes your toes curl and gives you a grin like an idiot) (from Gothcupcake)
MEATBALL SUUUUUUB!

what is the one thing you are horribly embarrassed of? whether it be a hobby, experience, or whatever. (from Alter-Eco clothing)
I have horrible hearing, and I come up with really ridiculous interpretations of what I think I hear, which I shout incredulously. Such as-

What was actually said: "They have this eternal competition."
What I heard: "They have this sea turtle competition."

What was actually said: "Giant Tent Sale"
What I heard: "Vagina Tent Sale?!"

It never even occurs to me that I heard incorrectly until Mr. Smarmy gives me that "What the hell is wrong with you?" look.

what is the strangest question you've ever been asked in your life?
(from Alter-Eco clothing)
One time, I was walking down the hall in middle school, and this girl walking past looked at me and said, "You're Alexis, right? No... nevermind." I didn't really know her, so I have no idea what she would have wanted to say to me in the first place, but then the fact that she decided I wasn't me... awesome. I like to think she was really pissed at me and was going to kick my ass.

Featured Shop: Poisoned Creations

by: xannabotx

I had the pleasure of interviewing Kim – the mastermind behind Poisoned Creations. From pencil skirts to sock monsters, this lovely lady can do it all!

Your designs have a definite rockabilly flair. What started the obsession with pencil skirts and hair pieces?

I've always made them for myself. My husband and I go to a lot of car shows and making them I was able to make to my style and customize to my hearts desire. I was getting requests for the designs so I decided to take it to the next level and change the focus of my shop.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

All of my designs are inspired by culture, tattoos, music, car and burlesque shows. All of those drive my passion and where my ideas flow from. Sometimes ideas come in my sleep. Very weird!

What are your favorite materials/prints to work with?

I love animal print! I tend to use it a lot! I'm a sucker for leopard print in any color!

What is your favorite thing to make and why?

I have been enjoying making the mini top hats. It's something rather new to my line and each one I can make unique! It gives me a break to refocus after sewing the customs I have.

How has Poisoned Creations evolved and where do you hope to see yourself in the future?

I've had people ask if I'm wearing a Poisoned Creations skirt when I'm out. That has been nice to be recognized. I'm hoping that will be world wide one day haha! Also I'm hoping to one day quit my full time job and make Poisoned Creations my only full time job.

It's 'Ask Me Anything' with Mara from http://www.etsy.com/shop/Indiscretion

Candyrave
Who would you want to play you in the movie of your life? (yes, I am recycling questions, lol)

Drew Barrymore – she’d get the goofy part of me just right. Plus I think we are the same size bust heheh.

MTcoffinz -
If you suddenly became colorblind and could no longer see turquoise, how would you survive?

After doing some research on the subject, I would either be able to see turquoise if it is a bright hue, or learn to love the color purple (which is how I would perceive turquoise). So either way I win :D

Angrylittledeadgirl
I want to touch them. May I touch them?

Lovely grammar, yes you may. However, you will have to catch me first.

HeartSizedCrush

why do i always want to squeeze you when I see you?

how did indiscretion get it's start?

In reality, I am only 5 inches high, and that makes me attractive for squeezing.

I used to make things and give them away to friends and family. That is, until one of them paid me to construct a garment for them. Then a few more friends did likewise. I decided that maybe I should be doing this creative work as a business.

The hardest part was figuring out what to call “IT.” I was struggling to find an interesting name for my business. My husband flopped open the dictionary, stuck a finger on a word, and pronounced that as my new business name. Very romantic
beginning…

Thevintagedoctor
Do you consider yourself a good parent, basing it on the fact that you clean out the cages every week?

I am extremely good at cleaning out the cages and I always remember to feed and water the offspring. I guess that would be a yes, based on my past performance and the fact that the offspring are still alive.

Gothcupcake
Favorite example of DIY in a movie?

Pretty in Pink I didn’t like the actual DIY she did with the prom dress – it was scary – but I liked the idea that she was reconstructing an outfit in the movie.

Smarmyclothes
If you could have one exotic animal for a pet, what would it be?

A peacock – I looooove the feathers! The bird is also the right color ;)

Ravenofskys
If you could change one thing about yourself (personality or looks) what would it be and why?

If I could change something: it would be to have longer legs. I am so tired of people using my head as a coaster, standing on tiptoe at a counter, and having to hem every pair of pants.

blackkittenaccessories
If I told you that you had a nice body, would you hold it against me? *snickers*

Most likely, but then what are you going to do for me?. =)

Invy studios
If you could time travel, when/where would you want to go? (Past, present, or future) What event would you most like to witness, but not alter?

I’d go back to the time of the dinosaurs, right when they disappeared. I’d take pictures, notes, drawings, etc. Then I would come back to the present, write a book, and it would become a #1 best seller. That is, if I don’t get eaten.

Platypuses
What was your first time like?

It was wet, sticky, and confusing. I wasn’t sure how to do it. It seemed straightforward, but was clumsy. And that’s how I had my first bite of sushi.

Psycho kitty
What reason would you give to request that the colour turquoise be changed officially to be the Mara colour?

Technically, I don’t really need a reason. It’s much easier to say “Mara” than turquoise, the word “Mara” adds a flair and je ne sais quoi to the sentence which transcends that lousy French word currently being flopped about. And it’s more fun. Par example: “OMG look at that awesome Mara shirt!!!” See?

Angrylittledeadgirl
How many pounds of fabric would you estimate you have?

Seriously: Let’s say I do a guesstimation of about maybe…on the very conservative side…I have about 1200 yards. I think this might be low, but we are only estimating, right? The average yard can be from 5 oz to 1.5 lbs. So let’s just use an average of 8oz. 8oz x 1200yards = I’m too scared to type the number.

WinterLights
What? When? Where? How?

Why are you so damn cute?!

What: as much as
When: immediately upon
Where: in whatever place
How: whence

See, I found these little purple pills on the internet. They claim to make you cute. I started taking them about 10 years ago…I guess they are working…

Fabulously Fierce
If you could be a fly on anyone's wall, who's would it be and why?

John Galliano’s workroom. Just so I can see how he REALLY comes up with his ideas.

Sinburned
What was the coolest project you worked on during school?

Probably a chair I made entirely out of cardboard in my freshman year of college. I mean, I made lots of fun things, but this was really wacko out there. I had to drag it across campus to my class and everyone who saw me stopped to help, admire the chair or sit in it.

Tapebubba
How does it feel to be the only marginally active straight male diyscener?

Probably the same way it feels for you to be the only very active transvestite hermaphrodite on DiyScene.

Tapebubba
Keep on your own side when sleeping, or spooning?

An avid sleeper with a fierce need to be possessive of her own side of the bed, Mara will acquiesce to spooning only if the temperature dips below 32degrees fahrenheit.

Absidy
At a movie theater, which arm rest is yours?

If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do the rest drown too?

Have you ever tucked your dress into your panty hose?

I hog both armrests. It’s the only way to anchor myself in the chair.

All the swimmers drown, otherwise they aren’t very good at synchronizing…

I have tucked many a skirt, dress, etc. into pantyhose. And I usually don’t know about it until I’m in public. I once walked 5 blocks in Manhattan on my way to the subway without knowing my miniskirt was tucked into my bright turquoise underpants. I am classy.

Kezbirdie
Let's say you've gone out shopping for some fabric/food/etc. And all of a sudden you nose feels itchy like there's a BIG booger in there. Do you stick your finger up your nose shamelessly in public, or try to hide the fact you're picking your nose, or wait til you get home?

I have to be honest when answering this: I’d be so concerned with my undies crawling up my behind and trying to find a corner in which to hide and yank them out, my nose would be forgotten.

Blackkittenaccessories
Do you have to hold your boobs when you run, so they don't smack you in the face and knock you out?!?

I use turquoise duct tape in which to secure my fleshy orbs, tyvm.

Beanbun
If you added up all the laps your son has run around the house/kitchen/neighborhood, would it circle the earth 8 billion times?

I think if all those laps were added up, we’d find not only get to the end of the universe, but also to the end of the interwebz….

Tapebubba
If you were trapped on a desert island, and had to pick 10 diysceners with whom to be stranded, nevermind those other nine bitches and tell me I'd be one of the ten.

Yes, you would. That’s because I know you have the body bags we can use to oops um….nevermind.

The cat skinning one. I really did google it.

If you HAD to kill one of the Golden Girls, who would you kill, how, and why?
(from BlackKittenaccessories)

Well. Dorothy's smart ass would get on my nerves over time but Blanche would be the most likely to stab me in the back. I can't decide. I think an iron skillet would do the trick though.

What's your favorite wardrobe item?

(from Sinburned)
Cardigans, last time I counted I had 26.

What's weirdest or most WTF thing that someone on Etsy has asked you?
(from MTcoffinz)

I've been asked to be someone's jewelry slave. I'm pretty sure they were kidding but it was still a but strange.

Featured Shop: EyeScream

by: PoisionedCreations

I had the honor of interviewing Nicole the designer behind EyeScream Industries. We share the same love for 80’s hair bands so it was awesome to be able to interview her not to mention her line is very rock n’ roll driven. Nicole took a small break from designing and when she came back I have to say she came back ROCKIN’!

What inspires your designs?
Music, obviously, is my biggest inspiration. The fashion that has gone hand in hand with each era of music inspires me. I like to tweak styles and make them my own. I'm also inspired by simpler things, like texture. Sometimes, I'll see a certain fabric, it piques my interest, I'll touch it, and WHAM! I know exactly what I want it to be :)

What genre/bands do you listen to when you create?
I'm a rock-n-roll girl, I have to have it. It has given me the drive to design and craft my best work. I adore 80's rock, all the hair metal greatness :) I'm a sucker for a good rock/metal ballad. I love everything from Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, David Bowie, No Doubt...to newer bands like Lordi, Sixx:AM, The Sounds, and Paramore. I'm all over the place! The most important thing is, I have to feel the music I'm listening to. If it makes me feel something substantial, it's mine. And yeah, I get a lot of crap for some of the bands I like, but I couldn't care less :)

Tell me about how you got hooked up with Chad Cherry and designed his outfit for The Last Vegas' video "Whatever Gets You Off".
Well, as much as I semi-dislike social media..I owe it all to Twitter! :) The Last Vegas had opened for Motley Crue in early 2009 at a concert I was at in Hershey, PA. I admit to not giving them much attention because I was right in front for the CRUE!!!! I was anxious to see Nikki Sixx, honestly. But I did like the sound of The Last Vegas, and I remember thinking how much Chad Cherry reminded me of Iggy Pop, Perry Farrell and David Bowie. He has an amazing stage presence! So I started following them on Twitter.

Months went by, and one night while promoting EyeScream, I saw a Tweet from them about an article Chad did for Lip Service clothing. I replied to it that Chad should be wearing EyeScream :) He sent me a message with his email and said he loved my clothes! I made him a couple pieces and some scarves...and his black faux leather & fur collar vest is the piece he wore in the video! Working with Chad is the most exciting and rewarding experience I have had with EyeScream so far! (Plus the video is badass! Watch it: http://www.shockya.com/news/2010/01/19/music-video-premiere-whatever-gets-you-off-the-last-vegas ) EyeScream loves Chad Cherry!

If you could design an outfit for any celebrity dead or alive who would it be and why?
Nikki Sixx definitely! His whole style is awesome, and yeah he's damn sexy, but he needs a touch of EyeScream I think... :) I would also LOVE to design for David Bowie! He's not only a music icon, but a fashion one as well...he's such a chameleon, I think it would be an awesome experience to work with him.

Describe your craft room in 5 words or less.
A kickass, loud, rockin' mess :)

How would you describe your designs?
Badass rock-n-roll gear for on and off stage! I try to make my pieces versatile, something you can wear anywhere, anytime. But no matter where you are, you're going to stand out, and no one else will ever have the piece you own!

What's in store for EyeScream Industries?
2010 so far has been all about expanding. I've opened a second shop (www.eyescreamindustries.com) in addition to my Etsy shop. I'll be working to expand my line with items I've played with but never seriously worked at, like more lingerie, and jackets for women and men. I'm always working on the promotion front, expanding my network, and spreading EyeScream everywhere I can! I'll also be working with and introducing some genuine leather pieces. Custom listings will also be posted at some point. As always, everything will stay one-of-a-kind! ...And hopefully, more collaborations with kickass rockers ;)

Any advice for aspiring designers?
Work work work. Continuously grow, whether you're teaching yourself or taking courses. Do not expect to "make it" overnight, or even within your first couple years. You get what you put into it! Also, it's really important to find your niche, find your passion. Stay true to who you are, and what you enjoy doing and creating, and you can never be a failure. And always remember: Imitation is NOT flattery.

Time for another round of Ask Me Anything. This week we questioned Emily of http://www.etsy.com/shop/dismantledfashions

On with the roast...

how much whiskey is too much whiskey?
(from Heartsizedcrush)

- You mean to tell me some people think there is such a thing?
That's crazy!

Scissors or sewing machine?
(from Psycho Kitty)

- Machine. I'll rip that fabric if I have to.

If the #2 pencil the most popular, why is it still #2?
(from FabulouslyFierce)

- Well, it refers to the type of.. Oh geeze, I'm a nerd.

If aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything
you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what
would you want?
(from FabulouslyFierce)
- I would want the said planet to be a timewarp back to the 50s.
Or 40s.

Who is your favorite artist and why?
(pet Zombie)

- Anne Taintor, currently. You know all those vintage photos with
sassy sarcastic sayings that are pretty much on everything these days?
That's her work. What's not to love?

Do you wear short shorts?

(from Indiscretion)

- Who doesn't?! My favorite thing in the summer is cut off denim
shorts. I'm country.

What's your most embarrassing moment?
(from Indiscretion)
- Every moment of my life probably.
I drink.. so that's a pretty big given I'm going to be embarrassing.
Not to mention my foot pretty much lives in my mouth.

You have two days left to live. What do you do?
(from Winterlights)

- Find out where the best show is, don't care where, and go there.
Bring all my friends and a bottle of booze and have an epic two days.

What do you sleep in?
(from Winterlights)

- tshirt and undies. I'd like to lie and say a lacy fabulous nighty,
but naw.

If you were a bowl of ice cream, what flavor would you be?
(from Nightsrequiem)

- Neapolitan. For one cause it sounds all nice,
and for two cause I wanna be
more than one!

Paper or plastic?
(from SinBurned)

- I have no preference. A bag is a bag!

What movie do you love but are afraid to admit loving?
(from Ravenofskys)

- I have no fear admitting my bad taste in movies.
I love nerdy stuff like Lord of the Rings.
And yes, I love Twilight. I also have a soft spot for Disney princess
movies.

Do you collect anything?
(from Pet Zombie)

- I have a pretty decent collection of Elvis memorbilia.
Everyone that comes over loves to make fun of my Elvis Barbie dolls.
I also like vintage reproduction tin signs, but I
don't have as many as I'd like.

Does your mother or grandmother have that 'old person' odor?
(from theVintageDoctor)

- Nope! My momma smells like flowers!

Jailhouse Rock Elvis or Viva Las Vegas Elvis?
(from TheMeggers)

- Are you kidding?! Nothing holds a candle to Jailhouse Rock Elvis.
Which is why I have a quarter sleeve tattoo of that very thing!

If you could have dinner with any author/actor/singer/designer,
who would that be (alive or dead) & what would you talk about?
(from Invy Studios)

...what would you order?
- Not to sound like a broken record, but Elvis.
I'd love to be able to ask him about what he thinks of his impact on
American culture, not to mention a mile long list of other things.
And we'd order fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches and
overcooked bacon, because those were his favorites.

Do you like Ovaltine?
(from sohokitten)

- Never had it. But the Little Orphan Annie decoder said drink more,
so it must be good.

Cake or pie? What flavor?
(from WickedBadNaughty)

- Both! Or.. I guess cherry pie.

Favorite color of lipstick and who makes it?

(from WickedBadNaughty)

- Red. Always. Toss up bewteen MAC Russian Red and this one random
Sephora brand I found once.

Something no one would ever guess about you.
(from WickedBadNaughty)
- I dunno, I'm pretty open. But maybe my age? People always think
I'm a lot older than I am.

Most guilty pleasure?

(from WickedBadNaughty)

- ... I have a secret love of emo and poppunk.
Don't tell! It'll ruin my rockabilly street cred.

If you had to choose would you be a nun or a hooker and why?

(from WickedBadNaughty)

- I'm too wild to be a nun and too chaste to be a hooker.
Maybe a hooker in a nun costume.

Most romantic thing you can think of?

(from WickedBadNaughty)

- The Notebook. Entire movie. I'm cheesy.

Have you ever tripped over a lawn gnome?
(from headless Tess)
- I don't think I've ever seen one actually in someone's yard.

Ever made a 3am run for the border on a Saturday night?

(from headless Tess)

- You mean the Taco Bell? Hell yes I have.

Have you ever dated a werewolf?

(from headless Tess)

- Does a man so hairy he could pass for one count?

If the walls in your studio could talk what would they say?

(from headless Tess)

- Please stop blasting the Cramps 24/7. We're tired of it.

Dogs or cats?
(from headless Tess)
- CATS. I have a big distaste for dogs for some reason.

If you HAD to make a choice. Lipstick or eyeliner? (from Kim)

- Unfair. I guess eyeliner. I look really creepy without it.

What/who is your favorite book/author?
(from MTcoffinz aka me)

- I honestly don't read much, so I can't really pick one.
I pretty much only read biographies if
anything.

If you were in a Zombie flick, would you want to be a Zombie
or a Zombie hunter?
(from candyrave)

- Zombie I guess. At least I could get away with crazy stuff.

If you could have any super power, which one would you want?

(from candyrave)

- Teleportation, absolutely. I love traveling so being able to do it
in an
instant.. amazing.

Who is your favorite Muppet/Sesame Street character?

(from candyrave)

- Uh.. I honestly don't know a thing about the characters past the
fact that
they exsist.

Who would you want to play you in the movie of your life?

(from candyrave)

- Rose McGowan, but only because Yvonne Decarlo is no longer
an option.

What would you do for a Klondike Bar?

(from BlackKittenaccessories)

- Buy one. And I doubt I'd do that.
Now if you'd asked what I'd do for some
pie..

How would you dress a zombie?
(from Deabusamor)

- Pin up style of course. She'd have fabulous hair and a tattered
pencil dress. But the hair would be perfect.

Who do you imagine wearing your designs?

(from Deabusamor)

- Regular girls. I want girls to know it is totally acceptable to
wear pencil skirts in daily life. I really want nothing more than to
run into strangers at shows in my clothes.

Besides your boyfriend, husband or significant other...
If you could sleep with anyone WHO would it be?
(from WickedBadNaughty)

- I'd probably do horrible illegal things for a chance with
Johnathan Rhyes Meyers. Good god...

If you could travel to any planet, which would you want
to visit?
(from Platypuses)

- I'm good here. As the Phenomenauts say, "Earths Got Hot Rod Cars
and Al Capone, You can't beat Earth cause Earth is the best!"

Featured Shop: WinterLights

by: EyeScream Industries

Your shop has so much variety! What is your favorite area to work in, clothing or accessories? Why?

Definitely clothing. Since I focus on plus sizes there is such a personal reward to be had in creating unique stylish clothes for those who can't find them in other stores. Making accessories is my saving grace, though, for when I'm in need of instant satisfaction.

Your shop name is so "bright" for the gothic pieces you create. How did you pick the name for your shop?

I knew I wanted a name associated with Winter, as I've always been obsessed with the starry-eyed, warming aura it is shrouded in for me. The actual pairing of the words Winter and Lights was pure coincidence, as I had spent a good ten minutes on Etsy entering in names which had already been taken. Winter Lights was the first available one, so I went with it! The "Lights" is in reference to white Christmas lights, which I used to have strung up in my room all year round :)

What designers inspire you the most?

My favorites are solely from the DIY world, surprise, surprise! I adore so many, but here are several from the top of my head.

Which do you prefer - making custom pieces for an individual, or a variety of already made pieces?

Everyone is shaped differently and not many people fit into the perfect measurement ranges on size charts. Speaking for myself, I have to alter store bought clothing 99% of the time once I bring it home, and that's no fun! That explains why most of my sales come from custom orders, and it's been incredibly enriching working closely with my customers in creating their pieces, and they appreciate having that option. It's win-win.

Are there any new areas you'd like to explore with your line?

More custom work, most predominantly. It is my intent to shift gears toward offering specific clothing pieces as customizable, and I have a whole mental sketchbook filled with designs I'm really excited about!

Where do you see Winter Lights in 5 years?

Hopefully with a distinctive, polished aesthetic, a solid customer base, and a profit margin *smirk*. I'm also in the beginning of a long term weight loss plan, so hopefully I can start modeling my clothes in the next couple years, woo!

Ask Raven Anything!

We've introduced a new feature here at DIYScene. As you may have noticed, we are a very eclectic group of crafters and occasionally do things a little out of the ordinary. So this 'feature' is a line of questions and answers that can be anything from blunt, to funny to completely off the wall. It could prove to be pretty entertaining.

One of our newer forum Members Raven of http://www.ravenofskys.etsy.com was extremely brave and offered her soul to the volcano, ugh I mean agreed to answer our questions ;)

1. What got you into skulls/bones? (from Pet_Zombie).
I was raised in rural Pennsylvania surrounded by nature. My family was/is very earthy and we would go hiking and camping often. My parents would find bones along the way and they would teach me about the animals by picking up the bones and pointing out features. I then started bringing the bones, skulls, and feathers home. By my teens I was incorporating them into my art and making jewelry wit them as well.

2. What is your favorite horror movie? (from CanDyRavE)

It would be a tie between Hellraiser and Nightbreed.

3. I have a lil question about your creative process... do you usually create pieces around a particular piece of bone? (as in you find a bird skull and create a piece around it) or do you create a piece and then find whatever bones would fit it better? (from Psycho Kitty)

A little of both. Often I find a bone and it inspires me to create a certain piece ( like the bone flowers) and other times I have to find the right bone for an idea that I have. Sometimes I just dump a box of bones onto the floor and just stare at them waiting for the creative process to kick in.

4.You have been a part of a movie and TV show lately...is this a direction you want to take your career (acting, directing, writing, etc) or is it just something that fell into your lap so you went with it? (From Invy Studios)

This is just something I have fallen into from time to time over the years. To be honest I had a lot of these opportunities when I was in my early 20's but I turned them down because I was just too insecure then. I have no real desire to be an actress or pursue it aggressively however I have decided to take every opportunity that comes my way so there will be no regrets later in life.

5. Arrrrg if you were a pirate, what would your pirate name be? (From Headless Tess)

Russilia...I have a thing for Vikings

6.You're stranded on a dessert island...what kind of dessert would it have to be to keep you sane? (from NightsRequiem)

It would have to be chocolate....I like 99.9% of anything chocolate out there.

7.What is the square root of 69...? *snicker* (From Angrylittledeadgirl)

You are a dirty girl!! Haha....hmmm Ate something?

8. Bill or Eric? (from MTcoffinz, me)

Eric Eric Eric. I have read the books and for me it is all about Eric. He is great in the books.

9. If you were President of the United States, what would be your first act of office? (fromTapebubba)

Create severe penalties and fines for all the top earning US companies who have more than 50% of their employees receiving government Medical assistance and food stamps. Example: The Walton family, owners of Walmart, are in the top richest people on earth with top profits from Walmart. There is NO excuse for these rich companies to pay their employees low wages and not offer affordable health insurance.

10. If you could invite three people, living or dead, to lunch, whom would you invite and why?
(fromWinterlights)

a. Dali: because I know he would be fun and he is my favorite artist
b. Peter Steele: because no matter how many times I interviewed him I still want to interview him more.
c. Jim Morrision: because I was always fascinated by his life and lyrics

11. What would be your name if you were a Pornstar (from Vicmes)

Mae-B West

12. What century do you think your true inner soul comes from or best belongs in?(from Tapebubba)

Sometimes I think my soul belongs in the Victorian Era but other times I feel like I could have been an eastern european gypsy from centuries ago...

13. In an homage to Mr. James Lipton....What's your favorite curse word? (from Winterlights)

I love them all..haha

14. Who was your first celebrity crush?
(fromSmarmyclothes)

Axl Rose followed by Edward Scissor Hands.

15.What is the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning?(from Indiscretion)

Coffee. Now.

16. What would you do if knew tomorrow would be your last day on earth? (from Jenellsrevenge)

I would try to spend time with family and my BF but would not tell anyone that it was my last. One day's notice is not long enough to do anything grand....

17. If you could have anyone in the world wear your stuff -- living or dead -- who would it be?
(from Deabusamor)

Siouxsie Sioux and Janis Joplin

18. Who are you friends with, that you never expected to be friends with? (from Photographier)

I would have to say my current boyfriend. He is not the type of guy I ever thought I would date let alone be friends with. We are complete opposites but it turns out that opposites make wonderful friends and lovers.

19. What's the one thing you can't live without? (from Kezbirdie)

Music. I think I would rather be blind than deaf, that says a lot coming from a visual artist but my passion for music is deep.

20. How do you feel about the way sex is portrayed on television? Like, during daytime hours, and not on porn channels?
(from SohoKitten)

I like all these wild and crazy shows that are on regular tv now however if I had kids I would not want them to get confused at a young age either. Sex is good and sex is natural but kids should
also be able to be kids......

21. What is your real name? Does everyone call you Raven because you work with bird skulls? (from BlackKittenAccessories)

Hint: I share the same real name as Stevie Nicks . Raven was a name given to me after a ritual on an indian reservation many years ago. It was given to me by a Shaman so I embraced it in full. I felt it suited me better. The only people who call me my born name are coworkers and my family. I do sign my art with my born name though....how confusing!

22. What was your first time like? Yes, that first time. (from Platipuses)

This may seem weird but I wanted to wait til I was 18 and I did. It was very hard to wait that long..like torture. My first was not someone I was in love with or anything like that. I was dating a guy
and he respected me, was hot, and was not pushy about it so he won the prize! Because I waited until I was 18 I really enjoyed it and there was no pain, only fun.

23.What is your alcoholic drink of choice? (from DismantledFashions)

I really do enjoy good beer and good wine. I am not into mixed drinks but enjoy some Absinthe from time to time.

And the following are all from WickedBadNaughty

24.What was a most embarrassing moment for you?

Falling down stairs at the goth club...haha. Made my pale turn red quick!

25. What's one of the craziest things you've ever done?

hitchhiking, quarry jumping, and swimming out to pet what everyone thought was a shark...........oh yea and picking up wild poisonous snakes

26. Cereal killer...are you one and if so, what is your top 3 most favorite cereals.

I really hate cereal. I read a lot of serial killer books though. It scares the hell out of me and I have nightmares often but cannot stop reading them....

27.Thongs, boy shorts, bikini's or granny panties *or commando (TY Bubba )*?

If I am wearing a short skirt at the club I may rock boy shorts, The rest of the time is 50% commando and 50% thong

28. What's your most favorite song right now?

Interpol: the lighthouse ....it is just haunting.

29. Were you a tomboy as a kid or a girly girl?

I was a TOTAL tomboy as a kid. I loved nature, getting dirty, and catching wild things like snakes, bugs, toads.

30. Italian or Mexican food...which do you prefer and which is your favorite dish?

I love both but Italian would win. I enjoy any type of handmade pasta tossed with fresh seafood.

31. Favorite soda?

Diet pepsi, but only from the fountain.

32. Favorite Ice cream?

Chocolate chip mint or coffee

33. Favorite item of clothing?

A tie between my stompy boots and custom corsets

34. Most guilty pleasure?

Gossip magazines and tabloids. Life is dark and this is how I lighten it up!

35. How long is your 'needs to die' list? If longer than 10, who is #9?

Pat Robertson is #1-#9 because I wish him dead over and over and over.....
